College Ranks High in U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities

  • Space science – No. 23

Additional subjects in the college—chemistry, computer science and environment/ecology—made the top 100.

In addition to being recognized in the top 50 of the Best Global Universities, UMD is ranked No. 43 in the world according to the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), which ranks the world's top universities based on research. Three departments in the college ranked in the top 50: computer science (No. 16), physics (No. 24) and mathematics (No. 36). According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities in Natural Sciences and Mathematics, UMD ranked No. 31. 

UMD was also ranked No. 20 among U.S. public universities in the 2015-2016 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, climbing six spots from No. 26 in 2014-2015. In addition, UMD improved in the world rankings to No. 117, up 15 spots from No. 132. The annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings lists the best global research-intensive universities across core values of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
