Hey everyone, my name is Sarah Davis! I am a senior earning a double degree in Biological Sciences: Physiology & Neurobiology and Anthropology, and I am on the pre-med track. Currently, I am a Medical Assistant at a primary care physician's office, a Research Associate atPrince George's Hospital Center's Emergency Department, and a member of UMD's Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program. I also volunteer at the Campus Pantry. In my free time, I love to cook and bake, listen to true crime podcasts, and hang out with my friends. I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Hi! My name is Dakarai Dunbar. I transferred to UMD in 2019 after studying abroad in Rome, Italy. I am a pre-med biology major with a specialization in physiology and neurobiology. Besides being a peer mentor, I also work as a surgical assistant at a center for oral surgery and dental implants and volunteer with One Tent Health to administer HIV test in D.C. to high-risk populations. In my free time I enjoy gardening, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Feel free to stop by the CMNS office to ask any questions you may have or even just to talk about life. Hi Everyone! My name is Donya Forohar and I am from La Plata, MD. I am a junior Biological Sciences: Neurobiology and Physiology major pursuing a minor in Humanities, Health and Medicine on the pre-med track. Currently, I am a Clinical Research Intern at Children’s National Medical Center where I assist with a variety of clinical studies in the emergency department. On campus, I am a part of the Student Health Advisory Committee, as well as a Project Sunshine volunteer. I was also a Peer Mentor for Life Sciences Scholars and really enjoyed my time in the program. In my free time I like to read, watch movies, make niche Spotify playlists, go to concerts, and spend time with friends/family. During quarantine I unlocked a passion for yoga and tried my hand at cooking. Hi everyone! I'm Katie Futrowsky, a senior Astronomy and Physics dual degree student. I am from Silver Spring, MD - a short ten minutes from campus. Over the past three years, I was a part of the College Park Scholars: Science, Discovery, and the Universe program, and had a blast! I am hoping to get a graduate degree in science policy after I graduate! I am currently participating in research analyzing black hole systems, and have worked at our campus observatory since my freshman year. In my free time, I love to read, explore nature, and do astrophotography! I hope to see you around the Peer Mentor Office!
Hi! My name is Sophia Glaros! I am a junior majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology and minoring in Nonprofit Leadership and Social Innovation. I am also on the pre-med track. Currently, I am a research assistant in the Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, a Research Associate at Prince George's Hospital Center's Emergency Department, and a Team Leader for Maryland Mentor Corps Reading Program. I am also a part of the Federal Fellows of Washington D.C. Public Health Policy program, a Phi Sigma Sigma fraternity member, and a member of Carillon Communities my freshman year. Hi everyone, my name is Morgan Jacobs. I will be a junior this year and I’m from Kingsville, Maryland. I am majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology & Neurobiology and minoring in Human Development. After graduating, I am planning on taking a gap year, followed by dental school. Over the course of my two years on campus, I was a tour guide and an RA at Hagerstown Hall. This summer I participated in a variety on shadowing experiences within the dental field. Hey everyone! My name is Connor Lu and I'm from Rockville, MD. I'm a senior majoring in Biological Sciences: General Biology and minoring in General Business. After college, I hope to attend dental school in order to become a dentist. Aside from being a Peer Mentor, I am a member of the Vietnamese Student Association and Delta Epsilon Mu, a co-ed professional pre-health fraternity. Additionally, I was formerly a part of the FIRE Program. I am also in University Honors and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. ¡Mucho Gusto! My name is Patrick Marcos and I am from Bowie, MD. I am a senior majoring in General Biology with a minor in Spanish. My plans after graduating are to travel a bit, and then attend medical school to become a primary care doctor. I've also thought about a career in teaching, but we'll see where life leads me. On campus, I am a member of the professional biology fraternity on campus, Beta Psi Omega, and I am the Rush Chair this fall! I will also be a member of the Language House LLP. Off campus, I like to volunteer at my local hospital in the Pediatric ER. Some things I like to do in my free time are reading, binging a new show, going down a YouTube rabbit hole, and getting outside. Fun fact, I am actually a transfer (I transferred to UMD my sophomore year), and I have commuted, lived off campus, and now on campus, so if you have any questions about that let me know! I am super excited to work with you all this year!
Hi all! My name is Lulu Mote and I’m a junior Biological Sciences: Cellular Biology and Genetics major from Hyattsville, MD. I’m a part of University Honors and act as an RA for many honors students in Hagerstown Hall. I’m pre-med as well, although I’m not entirely sure what I want to focus on. Recently, I’ve been thinking about pediatric oncology, but that could change any minute. Outside of school, I love to write and sing music using my ukulele and electric guitar. I also recently reestablished my love of reading. I especially love reading contemporary fiction focusing on complex female characters. Excited to see you all in the Peer Mentor office!
Hey! My name is Maya and I am from Frederick, MD. I am a senior getting a double degree in Computer Science and Economics with a minor in Technology Entrepreneurship here at the University of Maryland! On campus, I am a Research Assistant with the Maryland Center for Women in Computing, the Webmaster for the Maryland Psychotherapy Clinic and Research Lab, a Technica Organizer, and the Co-Founder of a volunteer club I started last year with my best friend. In my free time, I love trying out new recipes, working on my creative writing, hitting the gym for some rock climbing, and hanging out with my friends. Hey everyone! I'm Abel Odolil, a junior from Westminster, MD, who is majoring in General Biology and minoring in History. After graduation, I plan on going to medical school and becoming a physician (maybe a surgeon, haven't really thought of any specialty yet). Hiii guys! My name is Clarice Pamplona and I am a senior Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology major and Spanish minor from lower, slower Delaware. I am on the pre-med track and hope to start hearing back from schools this coming year! I started out my undergraduate career in the amazing BioFIRE program and have spent a significant amount of time in the Molecular Diagnostics Lab working with synthetic biology. Outside of CMNS, I volunteer as a counselor and training director at our school's student-run crisis hotline, the Help Center at UMD. You'll likely see me walking around with my service puppy in training, Richie, with his bright yellow vest on; I am in Terps Raising Pups, where we partner with America's Vet Dogs to raise and train young puppies to one day become future service dogs. Outside of school, I love the sunshine, skin-care, and yoga. If you need a soul sister, I'm here for you–just stop by the PM office to say hi to Richie and I!
Hey everyone! My name is Harini Patel and I am a junior double majoring in Neuroscience and Chemistry. I am from Frederick, Maryland. I was part of the Transgenerational Brain Initiative FIRE stream during my freshmen and sophomore year. After graduation, I plan to attend medical school and to one day become a physician. Aside from being a CMNS Peer Mentor, I have volunteered at Frederick Memorial Hospital and in the past year, I have worked as a medical scribe and as a medical assistant for an ENT practice. Outside of academics, I like to take my cat on walks in the neighborhood (yes, I have a cat leash and everything), hang out with my friends, and explore new food places. I am really excited to be back in person this semester (especially after 2.5 semesters online) and can't wait to help my fellow Terps. Hi everyone! My name is Maddy, and I am from Westminster, MD. I am a junior geology major part of departmental honors and minoring in planetary sciences. After I graduate, I plan to attend grad school to get my Ph. D. and then pursue a career in research. On-campus I work for M-Class lab where we study earth and solar system composition. I am also the vice president of the women’s club ice hockey team and a member of the geology club. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, crocheting, and baking. Hey! I'm Chidera and I'm a junior Neuroscience major on the pre-med track, hoping to become a surgeon one day. Apart from peer mentoring, on campus I represent the university as an Honors Ambassador and I previously served on the student council of my honors program, Honors Humanities. Off campus, I volunteer as a Firefighter/EMT at the Branchville Volunteer Fire Company. In my free time I'm either cooking, doing photography-related things, or crocheting. Hello there! My name is Sam Varga and I am a senior Atmospheric and Oceanic Science major from Hughesville, Maryland. Aside from being a peer mentor, I have been an orientation advisor as well as a recruitment ambassador for my major. I am the current president of the student chapter of the American Meteorological Society, the previous president of Numerical Weather Prediction - Maryland, and an alum of the Science, Discovery, and the Universe Scholars program. Over the summer, I interned with the Environmental Modeling Center. In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym or playing intramural video games with other UMD students.
