This past summer I worked in a research lab testing the sensitivity of detection of PCP through microcrystalline tests. Hi! I am Jonathan Bakly, a Junior studying Cell Biology and Genetics and minoring in General Business from Derwood, MD. I was a part of the BioFIRE program and am still actively involved with the program. I am on the Student Advisory Board for BioFIRE and I am also a Peer Mentor for the program. After college, I hope to become a doctor and attend medical school. I have a lot of experience in research, as I have worked in three laboratories. Two on campus, and one at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. I have also worked as a CA at LaPlata Hall for ResLife if you have any questions about that as well! I currently volunteer at Children's National in DC which has allowed me to get a better feel for the hospital. Howdy! My name is Alexis Beaver and I am a junior Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology major. I am on the premed track and hope to one day become a physician, helping to aid children all over the world. I am from Queenstown, Maryland, located on the Eastern Shore. Aside from being a peer mentor, I am a mentor and president of my living learning community's board, BioFIRE, as well as a member of the Student Health Advisory Committee. I am also a part of UMD's TerpThon, a philanthropy that helps Children's National Hospital in DC. For a year and a haIf I trained in a research lab working with EEG scans and analyzing data relating to racial discrimination's effects on mental health. Hi everyone! My name is C.C. Denne and I am a junior Biological Sciences: General Biology major from Columbia, MD. Hello all, my name is Manuella Djomaleu, and I am currently a senior Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology major. I aspire to be a physician with a focus on international medicine. I started my college career as a member of BioFIRE, and I am a tutor for current BioFIRE students. Apart from conducting research under FIRE, I also conducted research on plant virus on campus for one year. This semester, I am excited to work as a research associate for clinical research at Prince George's County Hospital. Aside from being a Peer Mentor, I also work as resident assistant in Elkton Hall. I spent the past summer working as a medical assistant at a dermatology private practice. I have gone on two Alternative Breaks throughout my undergraduate exams career. Although I love being busy, I also enjoy writing poetry, reading articles and exploring restaurants in DC. Fun fact, I'm originally from Cameroon, a small nation in Central Africa, and my second language is French!
Hello! My name is Josh Estrada and I am from Columbia, MD. I'm a senior Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology major with a minor in Business Analytics. My goal after undergrad is to attend medical school and become a physician. On campus, I am working as a Resident Assistant in South Campus Commons 1. I am also an Officer at Large and percussion Section Leader for UMD Gamer Symphony Orchestra. I've been a big band nerd for most of my life, and I'm happy that I've been able to keep playing in college. Other past involvement includes the Global Public Health Scholars Program, UMD Repertoire Orchestra, and working in the CATCH lab in the School of Public Health. When I have free time, I love listening to music, playing percussion and piano, weightlifting, and other sports such as basketball and ultimate frisbee.

Hi, my name is Neil Garg and I am a senior Biology major life science alumni at the University of Maryland. I am on the Premed track and am excited to apply to Med school next year. In the past I have scribed at offices such as Montgomery Cardiology and Capital Integrative Health. I also recently acquired my EMT-B license and plan on riding for the college park station. This summer I headed the Volunteers around the World Maryland chapter as the clinical chair and site director. I was able to bring a team to the Dominican Republic and provide aid through clinics to locals. On campus I am involved in Greek life, diversity and inclusion, athletics, tutoring and much more. In my free time I enjoy reading, skateboarding, playing soccer, hammocking, and watching marvel movies.

Hello everyone! My name is Vikram and I am currently a senior majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology and minoring in Religious Studies. I'm from Germantown, MD so I'm familiar with the Moco area as it's where I've been raised for most of my life. I am an active member of Beta Psi Omega, a biology/service fraternity here at UMD. I will be working with the Global Medical Brigades chapter at UMD for my third year this semester and I highly recommend you join if you are interested in setting up pop-up clinics and working on public health projects with communities abroad in countries like Honduras and Nicaragua (where we went the last two summers). I intern at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda in an Oncology genetics department lab and work closely with Osteosarcoma. I plan on going to medical school and I completely understand the stresses that students may experience from being on any pre-health track or any STEM major for that matter. As a member for The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I am a Big Terp for students from nearby elementary schools to help them study, play games, or just chat. I am also the hospitality chair for Mayuri's executive board, UMD's premier Indian classical dance competition, and a dancer for Terrapind Bhangra. Besides being a peer mentor, I am also involved on campus as the treasurer for Innoworks helping spread enthusiasm for STEM by providing a free Summer camp for children in the area as well as an active member of the board for the Conversational Korean Club. I also have been doing research on campus at the aphasia research center. Hello! My name is Aaron Weingrad and I am from Clarksville, Maryland in Howard County. I am a junior majoring in Biological Sciences: Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics and minoring in Geochemistry. I was a part of College Park Scholars Life Sciences and loved every second of it, so please feel free to ask me any questions about the program. My future plan after college is to attend medical school. I have worked as a clinical research assistant in the University of Maryland Medical Center Emergency Department. Specifically, I worked on improving the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease patients in the adult emergency room. At UMD, I work as an EMT for the Department of Athletics. I also work as an EMT for fire station 5 in Howard County, Maryland. In my free time, I enjoy anything related to the outdoors including hiking, camping, kayaking, and sailing. Also, I participate in competition jump rope and have competed and performed the sport all over the country and internationally as well.
