Hi everyone! My name is Jared Baker and I am a Chemistry major on the Pre-Med track. I am from Allentown, Pennsylvania. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I aspire to go to medical school and become a physician. Aside from being a Peer Mentor, I am a historian for Alpha Chi Sigma, the professional chemistry fraternity on campus. This past summer I worked in a research lab testing the sensitivity of detection of PCP through microcrystalline tests. In my free time I enjoy working out, hanging out with friends, and watching any kind of sporting event. Hi! I am Jonathan Bakly, a senior studying Biological Sciences: Cell Biology and Genetics and minoring in General Business from Derwood, MD. I am a part of the BioFIRE program where I am a Peer Mentor and a member of the Student Advisory Board. After college, I hope to become a doctor and attend medical school. I have a lot of experience in research, as I have worked in three laboratories. I have also worked as a CA at LaPlata Hall for ResLife if you have any questions about that as well! I currently volunteer at Children's National in DC which has allowed me to get a better feel for the hospital. I also volunteer as a Peer Mentor for the Maryland Mentor Corps (specifically America Counts) and I am a Crisis Text Line Counselor for the National Crisis Text Line. For fun, I enjoy playing volleyball, drinking bubble tea, playing video games, taking photos, and just hanging out with friends and meeting new people! Howdy! My name is Alexis Beaver and I am a senior Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology major. I am on the premed track and hope to one day become a physician, helping to aid children all over the world. I am from Queenstown, Maryland, located on the Eastern Shore. Aside from being a peer mentor, I am a mentor and president of my living learning community's board, BioFIRE, as well as a member of the Student Health Advisory Committee. I am also a part of UMD's TerpThon, a philanthropy that helps Children's National Hospital in DC. For a year and a haIf I trained in a research lab working with EEG scans and analyzing data relating to racial discrimination's effects on mental health. When able, I enjoy discovering new music, painting, swimming, and napping! I hope to see you around the Peer Mentor office, I'm here to help!

Hey everyone! My name is Cheyenne. I am a senior majoring in Biological Sciences: General Biology. I am from Baltimore, MD. I transferred to UMD in Fall 2018 after getting my Associates Degree. I am on the pre-dental track, hoping to specialize in orthodontics or oral surgery. This past winter I had the opportunity to volunteer with Global Dental Brigades in Honduras. That was a truly amazing and humbling experience. Now, I am the VP of fundraising on the Global Dental Brigades Executive Board and a Dental Assistant. Also, I am a member of the Pre-Dental Society and Delta Epsilon Mu, a co-Ed professional Pre-health fraternity. Currently, I am working on starting a nonprofit, with the the goal of providing hygiene backpacks for the homeless in the DMV area. Hi I'm Jenny! I am a senior Computer Science major from Fort Lauderdale, FL. Other than being a Peer Mentor, I am part of the FIRE program, Terp Thon Planning Team, and Kappa Theta Pi Professional Technology Fraternity. Last summer I had the opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy which was an amazing experience. I have also held internships at American Express and Bank of America where I have learned so much. Hey everyone, my name is Sarah Davis! I am a junior double majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology and Anthropology, and I am on the pre-med track. Currently, I am an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for BSCI160, a Research Associate at Prince George's Hospital Center's Emergency Department, and a member of UMD's Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program. I also have volunteered through Terps for Change at CASA de Maryland's afterschool program, and at my local hospital, Anne Arundel Medical Center. In my free time, I love to cook and bake, watch movies, listen to true crime podcasts, and hang out with my friends. I look forward to seeing you (virtually) soon!

Hi everyone! My name is C.C. Denne and I am a junior Biological Sciences: General Biology major from Columbia, MD. This past summer I was an orientation advisor, so come say hi to me if you were one of my students! Aside from that I am currently a Resident Assistant in Denton Hall and a member of the BioFIRE Advisory Council. In my years here at UMD, I've worked in a research lab focusing on noninvasive treatments for neurodegenerative diseases as well as interned at the UMD Medical Center in Baltimore. Outside of school, I work as a Chief Judge for the Board of Elections, so if you live in Howard County you might catch me at the polls! In my free time I love to oil paint, read mystery novels, and watch horror movies. I'm always down to chat, so stop by the Peer Mentor office to say hi!

Hi everyone! My name is Alana and I am a junior Physics major. I'm currently also a Peer Mentor for the FIRE Program in the Simulating Particle Detection stream and I hope to pursue a career in a similar field. I'm also interested in exploring nuclear physics and geology. I am a barista at Quartermaine coffee in Bethesda, MD so if you're ever there stop by and say hello! Hi everyone! I'm Katie Futrowsky, a junior Astronomy and Physics double major. I am from Silver Spring, MD - a short ten minutes from campus. Over the past two years, I was a part of the College Park Scholars: Science, Discovery, and the Universe program, and had a blast! I am not quite sure what I would like to do after I finish my undergraduate degree, but I will likely go to graduate school to obtain a Ph.D. in astrophysics, a masters in engineering, or a graduate degree in science policy! I am currently participating in research modeling exoplanet atmospheres, and have worked at our campus observatory since my freshman year. Hey everyone, my name is Ashley La and I am a Biochemistry major. I am from Gaithersburg, Maryland in Montgomery County. My goal post graduation is to attend dental school and to one day become a dentist. I have experience shadowing dentists, and have even been on a service trip to Peru to help promote health care in developing communities! On campus, I have been involved in the FIRE program both as a student for the Antibiotic Resistance stream and as a current peer mentor for the Host-Pathogen Interactions stream. I am also involved on campus as the mentor program chair for my social sorority. In my free time, I love to listen to music, binge-watch netflix, and visit art museums in DC! Hey everyone! My name is Matt Lam and I am from Rockville, MD. I'm a junior majoring in Biological Sciences: General Biology, as well as minoring in General Business. After graduation, I plan on attending Dental School and aspire to open my own private practice, as well as continuing volunteer work at dental clinics. Aside from being a CMNS peer mentor, I am the Co-President of the BioFIRE Executive Board, a BioFIRE Peer Mentor, Dental Assistant, and STAMP Student Videographer. In my free time, I really enjoy playing video games, going to the gym, photography, and exploring lots of new food places in DC! Hi there, my name is Stephanie Moy, and I'm a senior majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology & Neurobiology and Psychology from Elkridge, MD. I'm part of the Gemstone Honors Program on Team Cascade researching mast cell degranulation. On campus, I work in the psychology lab for Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience. In my free time, you can find me performing with the improv team Erasable Inc. or as a cast member and director of Maryland Night Live. Hey there! My name is Sushma Shankar, and I am a senior majoring in Biological Sciences: Neurobiology and Physiology. After graduating, I plan to attend PA school. Along with being a Peer Mentor, I work as a CNA at a hospital which has been an extremely rewarding experience. I am the fundraising chair of Delta Epsilon Mu, a co-ed pre-health fraternity. I really enjoy teaching others by being a TA for Anatomy and volunteering for America Counts, a program for tutoring elementary schoolers in PG county. I am also the Director for Mayuri, UMD's premier Indian classical dance competition, and a dancer for Terrapind Bhangra. Outside of school, I have been part of an Indian classical dance company for many years. I love taking naps with my dog, adventuring with friends and watching Netflix. Hello everyone! My name is Caitlin Shi, and I am a Junior Neurobiology and Psychology double degree from Rockville, Maryland. Besides being a peer mentor, I am also involved on campus as the treasurer for Innoworks helping spread enthusiasm for STEM by providing a free Summer camp for children in the area as well as an active member of the board for the Conversational Korean Club. I also have been doing research on campus at the aphasia research center. Currently I plan on studying to apply for medical school after I graduate in order to help those in the community achieve their goals. In my free time I like to study languages and listen to music. I am currently on the five year MCERT track and plan to get my Master's in Education following undergrad, hoping to teach at a high school in Maryland. Hello, I'm Tella and I am a senior on the pre-med track majoring in Biological Sciences: Neurobiology and Physiology. I'm a volunteer at Holy Cross hospital (currently on hiatus because of COVID), I was involved in the CAPER lab for 3 years, and I work for ResLife as the Cambridge Community CSS (desk supervisor). Over the summer, I interned virtually with a Psychotherapy clinic and learned to cook!! I really enjoy talking to people and learning about different cultures across the world. Fun fact, I lived in India for 11 years and I can speak 4 different languages. I love watching movies and shows of all languages and genres. Hello there! My name is Sam Varga and I am a junior Atmospheric and Oceanic Science major from Hughesville, Maryland. Aside from being a Peer Mentor, I have been an Orientation Advisor and a Recruitment Ambassador for my major. I am the founder and current president of Numerical Weather Prediction – Maryland, as well as an alum of the Science, Discovery, and the Universe Scholars program. I also write forecasts for UMD Weather and am a member of the student chapter of the American Meteorological Society. In my free time, I love playing video games, running, and taking pictures of the weather. I especially enjoy watching the sunsets on campus. I am spending the fall 2019 semester abroad in Florence, Italy - I'll be happy to share all about my experience and help you fit studying abroad into your schedule when I return to College Park in the spring. I'm also involved with MUTR, the Maryland University Training Reactor, and Terrapin Trail Club, a club for hiking and camping. Hello! My name is Aaron Weingrad and I am from Clarksville, Maryland in Howard County. I am a junior majoring in Biological Sciences: Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics and minoring in Geochemistry. I was a part of College Park Scholars Life Sciences and loved every second of it, so please feel free to ask me any questions about the program. My future plan after college is to attend medical school. I have worked as a clinical research assistant in the University of Maryland Medical Center Emergency Department. Specifically, I worked on improving the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease patients in the adult emergency room. At UMD, I work as an EMT for the Department of Athletics. I also work as an EMT for fire station 5 in Howard County, Maryland. In my free time, I enjoy anything related to the outdoors including hiking, camping, kayaking, and sailing. Also, I participate in competition jump rope and have competed and performed the sport all over the country and internationally as well.
