Peer Mentor Application Information

All CMNS Peer Mentor applicants must have:

a primary major in CMNS and have completed at least one full semester as a CMNS student.
a minimum of 45 credit hours completed by the end of Spring 2027.
a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
strong communication skills.
enthusiasm for working with first-year CMNS students.
ability to work effectively on a team.
ability to work 3-6 paid hours per week starting in Fall 2027
ability to be a teaching assistant for CMNS100 in the Fall 2027 semester.
- 2 hours, 1 day per week
- 1 administrative hour granted

Complete and thorough responses to application questions.
One UMD reference (e.g., UMD faculty or staff member)
- References will receive a link from CMNS Student Services to fill out a reference form on your behalf.
- Applicants will only need to provide a name and email of their reference.
- Only UMD faculty, staff, or graduate assistants can serve as your reference.

Enroll in and complete CMNS210 (2cr) in the Spring 2027 semester. A 2-credit course that focuses on job training and skill development for the CMNS Peer Mentor position. This course will start in mid-March. More details will be shared upon hire. The course will take place on Wednesdays from 12-1 PM
Enroll in and complete CMNS211 in the Fall 2027 semester. A 3-credit graded course that focuses on leadership development and the CMNS100 TA experience. Peer Mentors will satisfy the DSSP General Education area upon completion. More details will be shared upon hire. The course will take place on Wednesdays from 12-1:150 PM
