CMNS Teaching & Learning Center
The CMNS Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) promotes excellence in teaching and learning in the sciences.
The CMNS Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) organizes conversations on teaching and learning for faculty, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students (in coordination with the campus Teaching and Learning Transformation Center); shares teaching innovations; and discusses pressing issues in undergraduate science education.
The TLC team designs programs to meet the needs of new faculty members and new teaching assistants as they begin their teaching and research responsibilities. We encourage coordination among departmental graduate teaching assistants, preparatory courses and other courses dealing with university teaching.
What We Do
- Travel Grants for Conferences: Increase engagement among faculty and graduate teaching assistants in national efforts to reform education.
- Grant Consulting: Assist with teaching grants and broader impact sections, including engaging an evaluation team.
- Science Education Research: Study learning outcomes to support faculty and graduate teaching assistant professional development and evidence-based teaching approaches.
- Workshops and Seminars: Offer workshops and seminars led by nationally recognized teacher-scholars who integrate teaching and research.
- Individualized Support for All Faculty: Provide one-on-one consultations to enhance teaching and support the production and dissemination of research on teaching.
- Faculty Learning Communities: Collaborate to change the culture of teaching through implementing and investigating research-based practices.
- Training Programs for Graduate Teaching Assistants: Facilitate the required training program for new graduate teaching assistants and an advanced training program for experienced TAs.
