Freshman Applicants

Freshman applicants must apply by November 1 to be considered for merit scholarships, living-learning programs, and the First-Year Innovation and Research Experience (FIRE). Living-learning programs and FIRE provide a small community feel within the larger university setting and offer students academic enrichment and developmental opportunities. See the freshman application checklist and application deadlines.

Transfer Applicants

Prospective transfer students who want to find out how their credits will transfer into UMD and which major is the best fit should schedule a meeting with a pre-transfer advisor. See the transfer application checklist and application deadlines

Limited Enrollment Programs

The following majors in our college are Limited Enrollment Programs: biochemistry, biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, immersive media design and neuroscience. These majors have limited space and, therefore, have more competitive admission criteria beyond the university’s general requirements.

Prospective UMD students should indicate their preferred major when completing their online application for admission.

Admitted students who select a Limited Enrollment Program as their major are reviewed by the specific program to determine admission to that major. Students who are admitted to UMD but not their preferred LEP major are placed in Letters & Sciences, where they will work with an advisor to meet the gateway requirements to earn admission to that major. All major decisions are included in the applicant's admission decision letter.
